FN West (Amazing James and Fish Guy Josh) talked to Steve Shirley, an avid shark fisherman who has become a citizen scientist and a champion for shark catch and release and conservation. Clay and Kristin reported on their trip to Virginia Beach and their dinner of seafood risotto, tuna bits and shrimp and grits at Croc’s 19th Street Bistro. Chef Matt Knack shared his tips for cooking great seafood and touted the benefits of eating  sustainable, local food.   “Fish in the News” reports on a Florida man who caught a 400 pound fish on a wrench and the answer to why fish do not have necks.

110-striper-joshFN West takes us on a specimen collection trip on Suisun Marsh with the UC Davis fisheries crew. The trip was made extra special when fish nerd celebrity Dr. Peter Moyle joined the crew. Dr. Moyle is Distinguished Professor Emeritus and associate director of the Center for Watershed Sciences at UC Davis. He literally wrote the book on California fishes (Inland Fishes of California). He also wrote Dave's college ichthyology text book 25 years ago! Dave and Clay wrap up the show with "Fish in the News" that features less toxic fish, pucker gloves and an endangered New England river.

Fishing Podcast Episode #109 - Clay and his wife Kristen stop at the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center to chat with education specialist Karen Burns about the Sensible Seafood Program. Dave takes a trip to Maine to attend FishingFest '16 where he meets old friends, makes new ones, and thinks about getting a sweet deal on a surfcasting reel.  "Fish in the News" features bogus licenses, ticked off salmon and a Viking funeral for a pervy fish.

The Nerds pick a fight with Walmart and win! Clay takes listeners on a trip to the Northeast Hunting and Fishing Show with his family at the Connecticut Convention Center in beautiful Hartford, Connecticut. Dave hangs out with our species fishing friend Ben Cantrell as he recounts a recent three-day adventure in the wilds of Missouri. Fish in the News examines fishy BFFs, non-native fish fishing in Florida and a sink hole in China that makes a fish farmer really, really sad.
