110-striper-joshFN West takes us on a specimen collection trip on Suisun Marsh with the UC Davis fisheries crew. The trip was made extra special when fish nerd celebrity Dr. Peter Moyle joined the crew. Dr. Moyle is Distinguished Professor Emeritus and associate director of the Center for Watershed Sciences at UC Davis. He literally wrote the book on California fishes (Inland Fishes of California). He also wrote Dave's college ichthyology text book 25 years ago! Dave and Clay wrap up the show with "Fish in the News" that features less toxic fish, pucker gloves and an endangered New England river.

The Nerds caught up with Kristen Berube who just wrote a book called "Confessions of a Camo Queen: Living with an Outdoorsman".  She has a great time talking about her crazy life as an outdoorswoman with a husband, three children, six dogs and a pig in Missoula, Montana. A denturist by trade and a graduate of Montana State University and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, she get's in the spirit of the podcast by telling funny stories and doing a spot-on impersonation of English royalty.  This show also includes one of our best "Fish in the News" segments and a report on the Sunapee trout by fellow Fish Nerd Doc Martin.

Fishing Podcast Episode #104 -Dave and Clay get fancy and go to Boston's Symphony Hall to interview international singing star and expert Louisiana fisherman Paul Groves.  The interview was set up by Sam, the Hall's senior publicist and our new best friend in Boston. We hauled all our recording gear to Paul's fancy dressing room and learned about his journey from a kid putting around Louisiana in a jon boat to a guy jetting around the globe singing in the best opera houses! Of course we gave Paul one of our famous Fish Nerd quizzes that tested his knowledge of fish and musical instruments (he knew more fish). We can't thank Paul and Sam enough for making this one of a kind show possible. A proposed  product called "The Fish Call" is taking Kickstarter by storm. As of the time of this recording, father and son team Jeff and Jack Danos are 664% funded, with $66,471pledged - and they still have 18 days to go!  We caught up with the 16 year-old Jack and asked him some questions our fans had about their new product. What kind of fish does it attract? What is the science behind its development?  Jack was great at answering the questions and he was a good sport dealing with the Nerds as we had fun pitching new sound ideas and joking about going to his homeschool prom. We hope this young entrepreneur can turn "The Fish Call" into the next Duck Dynasty (Fish Nerd Fan Jeff Dannaldson suggested Redfish Regime).
